About Us
RIA Terrasystems first started developing mobile GIS technology in 1996. Their original MapPad software was developed for the Apple Newton, the precursor to the modern hand held computer.
MapPad became ArcPad after the company signed an exclusive licence with ESRI Inc. in the USA. ArcPad is now distributed worldwide and is a leading GIS software product for handheld computers.
In 2003 RIA TerraSystems restructured and split into three separate business entities each with distinctive new roles:
- RIA Mobile GIS continues to provide, sales, support and consulting services for ArcPad and ArcPad Application Builder including related hardware in Australia.
- Maptel continues to develop the ArcPad software and ArcPad Application Builder development and related business opportunities. MapTel will focus on product enhancement, strategic business relationships and new ventures.
- Resource Industry Associates will handle all imagery related enquiries.
RIA Mobile GIS is lead by Tim Price, a GIS consultant who was with RIA Terrasystems for six years. He continues to work closely with the ArcPad development team at Maptel and continues to help customers to make the most of Mobile GIS technology offered through ArcPad. Tim is supported by a team of people, all of who have at least 10 years experience with a range of ESRI products and provide ArcPad support.
RIA Mobile GIS has offices in Melbourne and Hobart and provides Mobile GIS Systems, Solutions and Support to clients throughout Australia.
